Kendra Thompson - "Lauds"
This is more work from Kendra Thompson!
Lauds
Blessed be the one
who took tent peg
in trembling hands
securing her own safety
with a solemn tap.
Who can stand to her?
For she fears not the night
nor stabbings on street
corners, cops coming late.
Unshut our mouths,
mighty one, for we
crown thee arisen
even though we’re afraid.
Open us like unhinged gates
while we sit with this
one request pending:
Loosen the locks
to the Great Hereafter!
For we await the day when
our fright is consumed forever.
And when we reach those dusky streets
here’s what we ask:
may we walk in the cool of the evening
with our Creator.
