Weight of October Weather

not raindrops but tears    not clouds but formations    not prairie but a field    not a field but the end of growing season    not a crop but cornstalks    not a harvest but a gathering    not a star but headlights    not a journey but a pause    not a thought but an inclination    not a highway but a gravel road    not a road but a pathway    not cold but falling    not fall but a touch of winter    not wind but a sad song    not a heartbeat but an echo    not love but affections    not with me but a memory    not sadness but a reprieve    not life but a desire    not earth but stardust    not an answer but a dream    not one place but the sky    not ending but beginning
